On Definite Redemption, from the Reformation Study Bible

I know some Reformed Christians who identify themselves as "4-Point Calvinists." The doctrine they have problem with in TULIP? The vast majority of these 4-pointers have a problem with the "L" -- the doctrine of Limited Atonement. This is, for those of you who may not know, is the doctrine of grace that states that Christ died ONLY for the elect-- NOT for the sins of the entire race of man. I have decided to post some thoughts from Sproul and the rest of the team that brought about The Reformation Study Bible. This particular study note is entitled "Definite Redemption" and located in the English Standard Version or the Reformation Study Bible , pg 1530. Definite Redemption Definite redemption, also called "particular redemption," or "limited atonement," is the historic Reformed doctrine about the intention of the triune God in the death of Jesus Christ. Without questioning the infinite word of Christ's sacrifice or the ge...

"One Way Only" [pt 2]

[[I'm writing basically a sermon I have spent some time thinking up. I've never actually given or even written a sermon before... maybe this would just be considered a LONG devotional. But since it's not a rant, I'll call it a sermon. It will take me a few posts to get all of this out. And I have no desire on causing people eye-strain from staring at a screen forever while trying to read this. This is the second part in the series. It is strongly suggested you read the first part prior to continuing.]] "One Way Only" [pt 2] by Ryan Gill John 14:5-6 (ESV) Thomas said to [Jesus], "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, " I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me ." Again, there is no one single verse that is more important than another. All scripture is breathed out of the mouth of God (2 Tim 3:16) and therefore important. .. BUT... IF W...

I know we cannot say any verse in scripture is more important than another one, nor should we. After all, "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness, th...

Current mood: pessimistic Brazil judge in gay football row By Gary Duffy BBC News, Sao Paulo A Brazilian judge faces legal action for homophobia after giving a judgment in which he said football was a masculine sport, not a homosexual one. The judge is reported to have said no-one who had watched the golden era of Pele and others in the 1970s could ever consider having a homosexual idol. His comments emerged in a case brought by Brazilian footballer Richarlyson. Richarlyson, who plays for Sao Paulo, was named on national TV as a gay player by the manager of another team. The suggestion that a leading Brazilian footballer was gay had already been the subject of considerable public speculation. Richarlyson started...

Response to an attack on the Holy Trinity

Image
This was a post I found in a Christian Myspace group tonight. I was tired when I saw it, but I could not let this guy (who i discovered after-the-fact was a Mormon) blaspheme against the Holy Trinity unopposed. No one had yet responded to his comment. This is what I was able to come up with... I pray it does some good. Posted: Jul 11, 2007 10:35 PM Peter wrote: The true trinity is 3 as 1, not 1 as 3. Jesus is not God, he is the son of God, which means they are two totally different individuals. Until you come to grips with this then you do not really know who God or Jesus Christ really is in your life or who you are in the greater scope of life. John 1:1-4, 14 (ESV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. ... And ...
