Legos = Evil Capitalism?!

This morning I wake up... and hit the snooze button on my alarm. But when I finally DO wake up and get going on my morning routine, I turn on my Fox News, and I discover this story being reported on Fox & Friends:
Banning LEGOs

Teachers at a Seattle day care center decided to ban LEGO building blocks — those colorful little bricks kids use to build such creations as robots, monster trucks, space ships and vast futuristic cities. The Hilltop Children's Center bills itself as a nationally recognized, non-profit, non-religious facility. So why did the teachers toss the LEGOs?

We'll let them explain: "We agreed that we want to take part in shaping the children's understandings from a perspective of social justice. So we decided to take the LEGOs out of the classroom. The children were building their assumptions about ownership and the social power it conveys — assumptions that mirrored those of a class-based, capitalist society — a society that we teachers believe to be unjust and oppressive."

After months of what the teachers called "social justice exploration" — they let the LEGOs back in — but kids were only allowed to build "public structures" of standard sizes in a village dedicated to what they called "collectivity and consensus."

FOX News Channel's Martin Hill contributed to this report

Wow. Just... wow. Never in my dreams did I think society would make it to THIS point. Taking away LEGOs... a toy used to build things by children to express creativity... because it "promotes evil capitalism." It is just so ridiculous. Let us take this further though... we have no art, because a child could look at one person's painting and feel as if he has less worth than the child who painted better than he. We shall abolish the position of "first chair" in band or any "lead" roles in drama, for this will undoubtedly lower the students who did not get a "lead" will have lower self esteem and feel bad... and it is a bigger sin to allow ANY situation to occur in which a child feels BAD than to kill an innocent fetus.

The newscaster mentioned that when she thought of capitalism, the thoughts coming to mind revolved around hard work, studying in school, doing a good job, provision for the family unit, and aiding the economy. I agree completely. But apparently hard work, providing for the family and doing well in what you do are all BAD concepts that playing with evil Legos instills in our children from such a young age (6-9 yr olds) that we need to deprogram them from our evil and damaging way of thinking.

Only in our society do we award video games that promote sex, theft and immorality, while at the same time taking away kids' Legos, tag, and dodgeball.
